Sixth Form pupil, Oscar, has been commended in the University of Oxford’s Tower Poetry Competition. The coveted Competition offers the UK’s most valuable prize for young poets with a significant reward for the winners. The competition is free to enter and it is open to pupils aged between 16-18 in the UK.
His top thirteen winning entry based on the theme ‘Mirror’ beat over 1750 entries, an incredible achievement.
Oscar was invited to the prize ceremony at Christ Church earlier this week where he was treated to a lunch, a presentation and a reading of the winning poems.
When asked how it felt to have had his poem chosen as one of the top entries, Oscar said “(it was) beyond a surprise – totally surreal. Everyone I know who submitted one was telling me at the time about how meticulously they were proofreading and editing and picking and choosing all the tiniest facets of their structure and language, which had me seriously questioning the efficacy of my own approach”.
