A group of 19 Classicists from Fourth Form (Year 10) to Junior Sixth Form took a trip to Sicily at the end of the Spring Term.

Arriving in Palermo, Sicily’s historic capital, the pupils spent their first day exploring the city, which included markets and monuments, culminating on Monte Caputo, standing 300 metres above Palermo where the group trekked up the hillside to visit the Cattedrale di Monreale, enjoying glorious views over the valley known as “la conca d’oro” (the golden shell).

Day 2 was spent taking in the The Regional Archaeological Museum in the centre of Palermo, after which the group took a walk through the fascinating back-streets of Palermo which led to the Cathedral of Palermo, one of the greatest examples of the city’s diverse history.

The remaining two days were spent driving to and exploring various temples, from the temple of ‘Hera, the temple of Concordia and the nearby temples of
Herakles, Athena, Zeus, and the Dioscuri (Castor and Pollux).

Thank you to our Classics teachers for organising a fantastic trip, we’re already looking forward to the next one.
