Jonathan Sackier trained as a surgeon in the UK and was recruited to America to help introduce minimally invasive techniques, a paradigm shift in medical practice. This, and the many innovations he was proud to be involved with, all had in common the desire to improve patient outcomes and necessitated the lateral thinking approach proposed by Edward de Bono. During this talk he will use examples of how such methodology demands a more flexible environment to take inventions and innovations from bench to beds
