Over the last two years, our school dog Leon and his human handlers, have undergone a bespoke training programme by Canine Assisted Learning who specialise in providing progressive and innovative therapeutic intervention that engages young people through the development of the human-animal bond.

This bond is of significant benefit to those who struggle to engage in traditional interventions and therapies. Leon works with pupils within the Learning Support and Pastoral departments where positive improvements have been noticed in areas of emotional and academic development across all year groups who receive support from these departments.
As well as having a growing impact on the pupils, Leon provides support for the staff requiring downtime at times of stressful and hectic periods within the school year.

His calm and unassuming presence is great encouragement for pupil engagement and breaking down barriers.
Leon is now a fully certified School Assistance dog and has been voted school dog of the month by Canine Assisted Learning in January 2025.
