At the British Museum, pupils took part in an engaging treasure hunt that guided them through the museum’s extensive collection of Chinese artefacts. Along the way, they discovered the fascinating history of various Chinese dynasties and deciphered Chinese characters displayed throughout the exhibitions. This interactive activity deepened their understanding of China’s rich heritage and gave them a glimpse into its ancient civilization.
Following their museum visit, the group headed to Chinatown, where they continued their cultural journey. Each pupil enjoyed a refreshing bubble tea of their choice—an experience many had been looking forward to. Armed with worksheets, they explored the local shops in search of traditional Chinese sauces and ingredients, putting their Mandarin vocabulary to the test in a real-world setting. Many pupils also purchased Chinese cakes and snacks to take home and share with family.
The day provided a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to immerse themselves in authentic Chinese culture, practise their spoken Mandarin in a meaningful context, and connect classroom learning with the world beyond school walls.
