The Development and Alumni Engagement Office is delighted to invite all members of the City of London School community to an evening with Professor Sir David Klenerman (Class of 1978) on 15 September 2022. Sir David will discuss his fascinating journey of discovery and scientific breakthroughs that now allows human genomes to be sequenced over one million times faster than in the year 2000. This innovation has enhanced our basic understanding of life and continues to have a transformative impact in the fields of genomics, medicine and biology.
Sir David is a Professor of Biophysical Chemistry at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Christ's College. He is best known for his work on next-generation sequencing of DNA and he co-founded Solexa, a high-speed DNA sequencing company in 1998 and was awarded a knighthood in 2019.
Sir David has received a string of honours including the 2020 Millennium technology prize which he was awarded alongside Solexa co-founder Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian.
