Professional Networking: Healthcare laid bare

The Development & Alumni Engagement Office is delighted to invite parents and Old Citizens to a networking evening for those working (or interested in!) healthcare; be it as clinicians, researchers, innovators, NHS managers or other related disciplines. Attendees will also participate in a discussion with our panel of experts who will give a state of the nation appraisal of their area of work and detail the opportunities and challenges they're facing. You can submit questions too!

This event is free to attend though donations to the School Bursary Fund are welcomed. Book your place here

Dr Pankaj Chandak (Class of 1995)
Pankaj is an adult and paediatric transplant surgery specialist and a researcher who pioneered the first use of 3D printing in paediatric transplantation in 2015 which won The Royal Society of Medicine Norman Tanner Medal, The British Science Association Charles Darwin Award Lecture and more recently the Combined Royal Colleges Medal from the RPS. Pankaj works at Guy’s, Evelina London and Great Ormond Street Hospitals as well as King's College London and UCL.  His scientific interests include complex paediatric transplantation as well as translational research into machine perfusion therapy of human organs and regeneration and public engagement in science. He has been invited speaker to The Royal Society, The Royal Institution, The Women’s Institute and Human Tissue Authority amongst others.  Pankaj is the Medical Director to the Netflix series "The Crown" where he also acted the surgeon operating on King George VI. In 2018, he set up the UK's first transplant children’s choir called Harmonies of Hope with BBC Children in Need, that have given performances for live television.

Dr Susana Frazão Pinheiro, Head (Healthcare and Life Sciences), UCL School of Management
Susana is a scientist, entrepreneur, health policy and investment advisor. She has 20 years of work experience in the UK, Portugal, Switzerland, USA, Angola, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti. Susana has been dedicated to developing lasting solutions to global healthcare challenges including pioneering an initiative to use mobile phones to improve access to healthcare in The Gambia.

Dr Ana Hidalgo-Simon, Head of Advanced Therapies, European Medicines Agency 
Ana is an experienced scientist and regulator working for the past 17 years at the European Medicines Agency, heading offices and departments in Pharmacovigilance, Drug Authorisation and Development. Currently, Ana is agency lead for Advanced Therapies Medicinal Products and Biosimilars.

Professor Paul Klenerman (Class of 1981), Sidney Truelove Professor of Gastroenterology, Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford
Paul studies infectious diseases including HIV and Hepatitis B and C to better understand the key features of successful immune responses to those diseases which could lead to the development of T cell vaccines. Paul was also involved in the development of a vaccine for Covid-19.

Dr David Mummery (Class of 1992), GP
David has been a GP for 20 years having studied medicine at the University of Bristol. He is currently a full time GP in West London and has special interests in diabetes, HIV and primary care research. He is the primary care research lead for North West London, and is a founding member of the Self Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) at the Dept Primary Care and Public Health, Imperial College.  This is the first University unit in the world looking at the totality of "self-care" relating to health. He is also on the RCGP national council and ethics committee.
