The ceremony recognised success across a wide range of subjects and activities, from academic excellence in disciplines including Chemistry and Drama to the equally valued Form prizes. Together, the awards reflected the breadth of talent within the school community and the many different ways pupils make their mark at CLS.
Among those celebrated were members of the Junior Sixth Form, whose outstanding GCSE achievements marked another successful year for the school. Yet Prize Day also provided an opportunity to recognise something that extends beyond academic results: the kindness and consideration pupils show towards one another every day.
This was a theme explored by our Head Boy, Henry, in his traditional address in praise of John Carpenter. Reflecting on what distinguishes CLS from other schools, he spoke about the importance of not simply promoting kindness as a value, but actively recognising and rewarding it.
“One thing I’ve noticed that I think sets this school apart from its peers is how it not only espouses kindness, but rewards it too”
Henry, Head Boy
He also reflected on how, at his primary school, kindness was one of the key values, but recognition for demonstrating it was rare. At CLS, he said, the approach is different:
“That’s why I love how, at City, kindness is so thoroughly rewarded as to foster an atmosphere where we are supportive and grateful for it, with many pupils receiving recognition here today for going above and beyond in demonstrating it.”
Henry’s words captured the spirit of the occasion, reminding those gathered that achievement takes many forms. While Prize Day celebrates academic success and individual accomplishment, it also recognises the character, generosity and thoughtfulness that help make CLS such a supportive community.
Congratulations to all our prize winners, and thank you to the parents, staff and families who joined us at Guildhall to celebrate the achievements of our pupils.
