Competing against the brightest young minds from across the globe, Yipeng secured a prestigious gold medal, finishing 4th in the individual competition out of 206 participants from 39 countries.
The journey to this remarkable accomplishment began with the UK Linguistics Olympiad, a notoriously challenging competition that sees students grappling with complex problems in lesser-known languages such as Yawa, Stodsde, Coptic, and Maonan. This year, the competition saw a record-breaking number of entries, with over 5,000 pupils taking part in Round 1 nationwide. Despite the tough competition, Yipeng and fellow Sixth Form pupil, were among the 87 pupils selected for Round 2.
Following another rigorous round, Yipeng was one of just nine students invited to attend a specialised training camp in Oxford during the Easter holidays. From there, Yipeng’s exceptional skills secured him a place as one of four students chosen to represent the United Kingdom at the International Olympiad in Brazil.
Yipeng’s achievement at the international level is a testament to his dedication, intelligence, and passion for linguistics. In recognition of his success, he has been awarded the International Honours tie, a symbol of his extraordinary accomplishment.
