Each academic year, our pupils are asked to vote on who they want to have as the CLS Partner Charity for that year. For the 2023-24 academic year, CLS chose World Child Cancer, a charity with a mission to improve diagnosis, treatment and support for children with cancer, and their families, in low and middle-income countries around the world.
This year our pupils, through a plethora of activities, events and sales have raised an outstanding £132,160.86 – the highest ever amount raised at CLS for a charity! This is due to the incredible fundraising activities of so many pupils over the last year including some outstanding individual efforts.
Fourth Form pupil, Kush, cut off his (very long) hair, five Junior Sixth Form pupils, Sina, Sam, Abel, Jasper, and Lucas ran a Half Marathon and raised an incredible sum of over £15,000 for our charity appeal. Fourth Form pupil, Santosh, took on the challenge of running 2 kilometres every day for 200 days, come rain or shine, raising over £2,800 in the process. A group of Junior Sixth Formers, Rafi, Abel, Sina, Rafi, Ollie, Stefan, Aiyoob, Sam, Alex, cycled a convoluted route of paths, roads, parks and riverbanks, starting in Luton and ending up in central London, at the sports entrance of our school! Whilst it took them many more hours than anticipated- they managed to raise over £4,700, going towards our total.
Individual events were a huge contributor to the sum of money we have raised this year- testament to the impact we can make if we each do our part for the charity appeal- well done to all of the other inspiring individuals who carried out a challenge of their own- your efforts are not forgotten.
There has been shortage of other exciting events this year, from non-uniform days, the sponsored row and sponsored walk, the summer fete, the Spring Soiree, Friends of CLS online auction to the intriguing staff & Pupil-led Cit-Ed Talks; the total raised really has been an entire school effort.
The 2023-24 fundraising year culminated in a whole school assembly, where we proudly presented the cheque to Luke Thomas, World Child Cancer CEO.
