On Tuesday, we welcomed Lord Neil Kinnock, former Leader of the Labour Party and European Commissioner, who answered questions on equity, leadership, the economy and what it is to be a social democrat. His answers – delivered with warmth, humour and striking directness – were rich with insight and allusion and it was a privilege for pupils to hear from such a compelling communicator.
Then on Thursday, Brenda Hale, Baroness Hale of Richmond, former President of the Supreme Court and a pioneering figure for women in law, spoke to our pupils about her remarkable career. With eloquence, candour and humour, she took the pupils into the world of the judiciary, talking about both constitutional principles and the interface between the law and some of the most contentious current public debates.
