During an engaging training session, pupils learned how IntoUniversity’s Academic Support programme runs – from how they’ll be paired with younger pupils to support them with specific topics, to how they can help set meaningful learning goals together.
A key part of the day was a detailed safeguarding workshop, ensuring that all volunteers understood how to create a safe, supportive environment. Through case studies, they explored how to respond to common safeguarding scenarios and the importance of knowing when and how to seek support themselves.
Pupils then took part in interactive role-play scenarios, exploring how to respond when a pupil is unsure about a topic or finding it hard to engage. These real-life examples help volunteers build confidence in managing the variety of situations they may face.
By the end of the session, pupils said they felt confident and prepared for their roles as volunteers ready to make a positive impact on the pupils they’ll be supporting in the weeks ahead.
