Channel 4 Presenter, Cathy Newman, talks to CLS

Thursday, 23 September 2021

Cathy Newman, Channel 4 News presenter and Independent columnist, delivered our first in-person talk of the academic year last week. She spoke to our Politics Society about her career as a journalist, and what it is like to work as a political journalist today.

Being the first female presenter of Channel 4, she was keen to elaborate about her divisive interview with Jordan Peterson. In her dive into the current state of the news industry, she relived how she entered the news industry, barriers in the workplace, unnerving experiences in war-torn countries, and (an oddly detailed) story of the London sewers’ fatbergs.

But most noticeably all, she remarked that she wouldn’t trade her place in journalism for anything else.

The Politics Society would like to give a massive thanks to Cathy for visiting us – and we hope she enjoyed it as much as we did.
