Year 9 visit Chelsea Physic Garden

Tuesday, 05 October 2021

Last week, Year 9 visited the Chelsea Physic Garden as part of our Third Form Trips programme.

They split into two groups; one learned how to propagate rosemary plants and the process behind it. They even got to take a rosemary plant home to keep! The other group moved around the medicinal garden and were told about how unusual and sometimes poisonous plants can be beneficial to us (or used to be, historically). The guide pointed out plants like the Yew Tree that is used in cancer treatments.

The pupils then looked at plants that are currently being researched in-depth for their use for fighting off the more serious respiratory effects of Covid-19. The groups then spent time walking around the garden with a diagram of the human body, finding plants that aided each of the main organs.

Thank you to the Chelsea Physic Garden for hosting such an interesting and informative Third Form visit.
