Lord Wolfson Addresses CLS Politics Society

Tuesday, 17 May 2022

Last Friday, the Politics Society hosted Lord David Wolfson of Tredegar to speak and answer questions from pupils.

Lord Wolfson had been justice minister in the House of Lords since the end of 2020 up until his resignation on 13 April this year and prior to this he had a successful career as a  commercial barrister at One Essex Court which he now plans to return to.

As the only Justice Minister in the house of Lords, Lord Wolfson was responsible for reporting on all Ministry of Justice business, as well as developing key policy areas including criminalizing the taking of non-consensual photographs for purposes of sexual gratification. He spoke about his interesting and varied career, including the moment he was asked to become a Minister with two and a half years of work already in the diary!

He also spoke on points of law about which he is passionate, specifically the importance of the rule of the law. The Politics Society would like to thank Lord Wolfson for his insightful and highly engaging talk.
