City hosts TEDx talks

Thursday, 23 March 2017

Last week, CLS played host to TEDx Square Mile’s annual conference. TEDx supports local individuals and groups in their efforts to host independent TED style events around the world.

The day consisted of 16 speakers giving talks based on the theme ‘The School of Tomorrow.’ To find out more about TED and TEDx click here

TEDx gave City boys the chance to pitch their own talk on the day. Five boys put themselves forward for the coveted space to talk amongst the accomplished speakers. Boys were given free rein to deliver a talk on whatever they felt passionate about within the umbrella theme of 'The School of Tomorrow.' Their choice of topics ranged from Beatboxing to creativity in the office environment.

Sixth Former Clemens, wowed the audience with his 15 minute presentation on his recent success with iGEM (read more about this here). His talk was entitled ‘Not saying no: making your ideas come true’. This was based around his recent success in the face of adversity and how he learned to problem-solve in a real-life situation. He spoke about how his Biology teacher, Mr Zivanic, enabled him and his team to enter the international competition for the first time last year, even though, at first glance, the time and money needed for the project seemed out of reach.

Clemens was the youngest person in this year’s line up yet managed to deliver a stand out presentation.

Keep your eyes out for the full length talks which will be on YouTube in the next few weeks.
