Zak gets Gold

Tuesday, 23 January 2018

In January, Old Citizen Zak, returned from St. John’s College, Cambridge to collect his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. He said of the experience, "I was fortunate enough to be able to receive my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award in the beautiful throne room of St James's Palace, and to hear some kind words of congratulations from Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. It was great to see so many other young people from a variety of schools and backgrounds together to have our hard work recognised, and also to celebrate how much fun we had along the way. I was particularly happy to be able to present our own Mr Silcock with a pin from the Duke of Edinburgh Award as recognition for all that he has done for the scheme at City, which continues to go from strength to strength.

Capping off the day was a speech from the hugely inspiring Roz Savage, a Guinness World Record holder and the first woman to row solo across three oceans - something she did to raise awareness for environmental issues, a cause close to my own heart. If she could survive a hundred days alone on a boat, then there's no reason you can't manage a few days of backpacking with some friends - so what are you waiting for?"
