CLS boys reach semi-final in Futsal tournament

Wednesday, 31 January 2018

City of London School’s U13 Futsal squad recently travelled to Brunel University to participate in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) National Futsal Tournament. Futsal is a five-a-side football game played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey-sized goals and a size four ball. It is played to touchlines and all players are free to enter the penalty area and play the ball over head-height. Games are played in 20-minute halves.

Prior to the tournament there were two training sessions in order to give the team an understanding of the rules and basic concepts of Futsal, as the game was relatively new to the selected squad. They played impressively throughout the group stage despite this, winning against King's College School and King Edward's School Whitley. City progressed through a tough group stage as runners-up and were set for a semi-final against Bournemouth Collegiate School. The semi-final game was a fast and furious affair that ended 2-0 to their talented opponents, who went on to become national champions.

Considering this was City of London School’s first attempt at a Futsal tournament, and the ISFA National Futsal Competition at that, reaching the semi-final stage reflects their ability and character whilst representing the school. Well done to Ezra, Timi, Benjamin, Hugo, Faizaan, Patrick, Krish, Charlie and Felix.
