Fourth Former competes in ISF World Schools’ Table Tennis Championships in Malta

Friday, 20 April 2018

Fourth Former Joseph has recently competed in the ISF World Schools’ Table Tennis Championship in Malta. The event saw 49 teams, consisting of athletes aged 16-18, from 20 countries and three continents, competing in 144 matches over one week – no small feat! The level of play was extremely high. While Joseph and the team did their best, the English boys eventually placed sixth out of seven nationally selected boys’ teams, just losing out narrowly to Chinese Taipei (4-3) and Slovakia (4-3), the second and fifth placed teams respectively. Joseph was also the only English player to make it to round 32 in the individual event, where he lost narrowly 3-2 to a player from Chinese Taipei.

During the Cultural Day, the players got a chance to visit the stands of the different countries and took turns to present a cultural item to the rest of the participants.

This was an amazing experience for Joseph to represent England at such a high level and we wish him all the best for any future championships.
