Smart Moves for CLS Chess Star

Tuesday, 24 April 2018

A First Form boy continues to chalk up success in the world of chess. During the Easter break, Jacob gave a chess demonstration and training at a primary school in Middlesbrough.

CSC Teesside proudly reported that: “Today, we had England International Jacob at Park End Primary to help the children - and the staff! - with their chess.
Jacob, who came all the way from London for today's excellent day of chess, demonstrated his great chess skills by playing 10 games simultaneously in both of our Y5 classes. Jacob won every game!”. Take a look at their website (here) for pictures from the day.

Having amazed the North East with his prodigious talent, Jacob won the National Junior Squad U12 tournament held in Daventry. The English Youth Grand Prix came to a close after this tournament finished. With Jacob’s results, he was able to retain the English Youth Champion title for a third year running.

He finished the holiday playing in an adult tournament in Doncaster. Jacob had some good results, drawing with a chess Fide Master in R1 and managed to hold off a Grand Master for three hours in R2 before losing.

The English Chess Federation have now put Jacob onto their junior elite programme and given him an award towards his coaching fees.

Congratulations Jacob. We look forward to reporting on your next move(s).

Jacob won every game!
