U15 football team wins 3-2 over Haberdashers Askes Knights Academy in the District Cup

Friday, 04 May 2018

On 30 April, the U15 side lined up for their last game of the season and the last match as a group of players, at Hayes Lane, the home of Bromley FC.

With a mix of excitement and pressure at the opportunity to win one last cup as a team, City had a tentative start against a talented Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy. The first twenty minutes saw City pushed right back in their half and finally Haberdashers converted with a well-taken finish. However, the second half started with a renewed energy from the City boys pushing for an equaliser. Adam made a host of wonderful saves to keep the score at only 1-0, however, due to an unlucky deflection from distance; Haberdashers' went 2-0 up.

With some heads dropping, City continued to battle on and with the introduction of Oliver, City started to attack with some intensity. Finally, City hit back with Oliver scoring from the rebound of his own free-kick. The players continued to attack with this momentum and Oliver was through on goal when he was brought down: it was a stone wall penalty. Oliver converted with ease into the top right-hand corner, so with five minutes left could City find a winner? Oliver shot from the edge of the box bringing out a save from the keeper, which could only result in Derry Duffy thundering the ball home. City held out the game with some fine defending by Roy and Atharva to bring about a remarkable comeback to cap the end of the season with a 3-2 win.

The match displayed the resilience and talent of the team they had so often showed all season. Congratulations to the team and to their coach Mr Santry.

The second half started with a renewed energy from the City boys.
