2nd Form create board games for TSBA Cross Curricular Day
On Tuesday, the Second Form boys were off timetable for a day of product design, a cross-curricular collaboration between the English, Art and IT Departments.
Making board games inspired by this year’s Trinity School Book Award books, the boys were assigned teams and particular roles to develop creative responses to the novels they had read. Some of the boys were involved in learning Photoshop to create the boards as well as design the boxes, and others made counters, rules and dice using Design Technology equipment and 3D pens.
The activity was designed as a collaborative enterprise in which the boys worked in teams and kept in constant communication to update each other on the progress and development of their ideas – rather like the creative industries within which some of the boys will one day work.
The novels they worked on were Frances Hardinge’s ‘The Lie Tree, Kim Slater’s ‘The Boy Who Lied’, Paul Dowswell’s ‘Auslander’, Nicholas Bowling’s ‘Witch Born’, Muhammad Khan’s ‘I Am Thunder’Alice Broadway’s ‘Ink’. The best groups created games with titles such as Lie-Do, Berlin Break-Out and Ausopoly.
