Economics Society hosts Bradley Fried
On Monday, Bradley Fried visited CLS to talk to our Economics Society. Bradley is currently the Chair of the Court of the Bank of England, after having been a successful businessman in his earlier career. After joining Investec as a COO in the UK in 1999, Fried joined the Bank of England board and is now the chair of the board, effective from last summer.
The purpose of Fried’s talk was to explain the role of the Bank of England as an independent entity in the UK, the second most trusted financial institution after the Crown, in particular how it managed the economy and ‘served the people of Britain by maintaining monetary and financial stability.’
Fried urged all of us to read the news and stay up to date with current affairs. When asked if crises were an inevitable part of life, Fried responded in affirmation, and said that one must always be ready and prepared to deal with them when they happen.
Thank you to Mr Fried for coming to talk, and stay posted for any more economics talks which will be happening in the future.
