Author Peter Bunzl takes the Lower School through deportment class
To coincide with World Book Day, Author Peter Bunzl delivered an engaging talk to OG (Year 6), First Form (Year 7) and Second Form (year 8). Peter is the author of the Cogheart adventures, Cogheart, Moonlocket and Skycircus, all of which have different plots but follow the same main characters throughout the exciting series.
He explained to the pupils the writing process for each book and how long it can take - he spent three years working on Cogheart and one working on the preceding two books, Moonlocket and Skycircus. Peter got the pupils to see how well they would do in finishing school, referencing his character Lily who lives in one, by practising their poise in deportment class with books balanced on their heads. He then gave the class some top tips on writing: “Try to choose objects to write about. These objects should have some effect on the storyline and there should be some incentive to obtain these objects. This incentive should be present on the sides of both the good and the bad.”
Peter actually has physical versions of each of the objects found in the novels. An old case for Cogheart, a pocket watch with a shape of a moon for Moonlocket, and a diary for Skycircus. As always, many thanks Peter Bunzl for taking the time to come and speak to us, and to the Library and English department for making this happen.
