CLS Success in History Essay Competition
The David Grossell History Competition was launched in October 2018 in memory of a former CLS teacher. After David’s premature death last year, it was felt that a fitting way to remember him and to celebrate his impact on the many youngsters he taught and the many young teachers he guided, was an Essay Competition.
Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School organised the first competition, as it was there that David first taught; six boys from CLS submitted essays. Of the final short-list of six, CLS took two of the places. The Head accompanied Theo and Tobias to the Prize Winners’ Tea at Habs’ on Tuesday 19 March. Tobias took first prize; with his essay on Stalin and Theo was also successful with his essay on the First World War’s historical impact.
UCS will organise the 2019-2020 competition. Our Assistant Head Academic, Noeleen Murphy, commented: “Having worked with David when I first joined CLS, I am ever grateful to him for his advice and this competition is very special to me. I am delighted with this success in its inaugural year.”
We look forward to future contributions from CLS boys.
