National Independent Schools Six-a-Side Champions
Our 1st Football Team took part in the National Independent Schools 6-a-side Cup last week; a unique competition played on a full-size pitch and therefore a real test of fitness and game intelligence. The team eased through the group stages with a draw against Millfield and comfortable wins against Lancing, St Columba’s, Winchester and Oswestry.
They met Alleyn’s in the cup quarter-final and disappointingly conceded a late equaliser to take it to penalties. Saves and a cool head from Sixth Former Adam meant they faced clear favourites Royal Russel who were searching for their fourth consecutive title. To the crowd's shock and delight, goals from captain Luc and Derry took the School to their third-ever national final.
Tired legs and numerous injuries meant the team had to dig deep against Bradfield College in the Final. A well-worked goal from Luc took a deserved lead but another late equaliser took the game to extra time. Neither team were able to find the winner and penalties loomed. All CLS players were cool under pressure and another save from Adam meant we were crowned national champions for the first time in the School’s history.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this victory. Click here for a full match report.
