Celebrating successes in the Music Department
This term the Music Department was intending to launch a weekly Lunchtime Live recital series, offering our young musicians an informal performance platform. Undaunted, Director of Music, Mr Quesnel, has moved the format online and the recital series was launched by Year 7 Music Scholars on Tuesday. Featuring pupils Hoa-Tinh (piano), Elliot (piano), James (violin) and Cornelius (saxophone), the programme consisted of music by Bach, Chopin and Charlie Parker and was Cornelius' first foray into be-bop!
Two of the performers are also celebrating incredible achievements having won the ABRSM Sutton prize for distinction at Grade 8 piano (including full marks for performance), Hoa-Tinh also won the gold medal in the Romantic music category at the London Young Musician Series 3.
Secondly, Elliot has had international success, a second place in the Canadian international music competition was followed by winning round one of Crescendo (New York). Elliot told us "In previous years I would have flown to New York to compete in the second round there with a different piece. But this year it was online, so I am still invited to play in the Winners' Concert when the Carnegie Hall opens again".
Congratulations to all involved.
