CLS and TEDx in Creative Learning ThinkTank
The School are in discussion with TEDxSquareMile, Adobe, the Young Film Academy, ThinkIT, a past Creative Director from Walt Disney Television International, Luke Hughes & Co, Wild Dog Design, Haymarket Publishing and SpaceOasis.
Sarah Fletcher is very keen to engage outside agencies involved with creative thinking and learning on the theme of Creativity in Education. Opening discussions with professionals both in and outside education were held on Friday 27 January in the new Levene Learning Centre with a specific emphasis on how to embrace technology and digital content creation in the School’s thinking and workflow. The School’s newly appointed Head of Art, Patrick Sanders, due to take up his post in September, joined the discussion.
The issues that the School wishes to address include:
- Digital skills defy natural school syllabuses and curriculums – how do we de-emphasise the technical aspects, focusing on the creative output and message? Can we weave digital skills and workflow across curricular and co-curricular activities, providing skills that are invaluable, if not essential in the evolving job market?
- Can the School provide constructive and productive digital skills training and support to balance the perceived negatives of digital distraction?
- Creativity and institutional thinking are not natural bed-fellows. How do we encourage and support creative and disruptive thinking, while ensuring the right disciplines and quality of thought are central to these processes?
The theme for the next TEDx SquareMile live event is ''The School of Tomorrow'', which is being held on 18 March 2017 at CLS in the Winterflood Theatre. TEDx Square Mile are collaborating with the School and will feature a talk from our own pupils at CLS. More information about the event can be found at www.tedxsquaremile.com.
The School is equipping a Digital Studio adjacent to its new Levene Learning Centre to support pupils and staff with digital content creation. The discussion on creative learning and how we collaborate with the wealth of professional skill on our doorstep is central to how we approach this exciting project. Watch this space.
