Third Form took part in a Careers in the Curriculum morning linked to their GCSE option subjects, exploring the skills they are developing and how these might connect to future pathways. Through presentations, interactive activities and real-world examples, teachers brought those links to life through practical examples, employer insights and discussion of real-world trends.
Second Form pupils explored similar themes through their core subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and English, looking at how classroom skills such as problem-solving, communication and analysis are relevant beyond school and discovering exciting careers linked to their subjects that many had not expected.
Third Form also took part in an excellent interactive workshop led by consultants from Tinker Tailor, learning more about self-development, curiosity, career planning, decision-making styles and labour market information. The workshop was packed with engaging activities, including a recruitment challenge that asked pupils to think about what employers value, and a lively exploration of labour market trends through a game of “what’s hot and what’s not”.
The Summer Term programme was rounded off on Pastoral Day, with Second Form taking part in a Career Ladder activity, working in groups to guess the careers of five visiting guests, while Third Form enjoyed their first experience of networking, each pupil meeting at least ten guests each from a wide range of careers, learning about different sectors and pathways, starting to build their understanding of the world of work and practising the skills required for professional conversations. More than 30 guests joined us in total, finding the experience interesting and rewarding.
