Monday hosted Year 10’s from CLS and CLSG, and Tuesday saw Year 12’s from CLS, CLSG, City of London Academy Shoreditch Park, and Islington Collegiate Sixth Form come together.
Pupils started the day with an icebreaker, sharing and comparing their knowledge and perspectives about energy production and use, before playing a mis-information game where pupils had to identify true vs false statements related to energy and the environment.
They were then mixed up into four groups, given a different topic on the subject of hydrogen (e.g: extraction, use, properties, etc) and had to put together a short presentation discussing the pros and cons of it compared to other energy counterparts (fossil fuels and renewables).
The groups eplored energy landscapes (simple, complicated, and complex) which let pupils reflect on the complexity of energy transition in the modern world.
The day ended with “The Great Hydrogen Debate: Is energy transition possible?”. Pupils were split into the prosecution “No, energy transition to hydrogen fuel will not happen”, and the defence “Yes, energy transition to hydrogen fuel will happen”, as well as a jury and judge. They had time to prepare their arguments before the assigned judge lead the debate and the jury reached their verdict.
