Last weekend, our CCF cadets set off for their much-anticipated training weekend at St Martin’s Plain. Spirits were high as they boarded the coach, and after a two-hour journey, they arrived ready to take on a packed schedule of activities designed to build skills, teamwork and confidence.

Once everyone had settled into their accommodation, the first session began: first aid training with Mr Dawson. Combining humour with hands-on learning, the session proved both entertaining and informative, setting the tone for the weekend ahead.

After an early start the next morning, cadets changed into their MTP uniforms and began a full day of training. They took part in rifle instruction, learning the NSP (Normal Safety Precautions) and how to conduct safety checks when handing over a rifle. In first aid, they practised the recovery position and performed CPR using mannequins. Later, they were taught how to disassemble and reassemble a rifle, attach and detach a sling, and clean the weapon using the correct equipment.

Moving on to Fieldcraft training, Cadets learned about camouflage, concealment, and tactical movement, including the “leapfrog” and “caterpillar” manoeuvres through the woods. They also practised fixing rifle obstructions and changing magazines.

As the weekend drew to a close, cadets completed their safety tests before taking part in drills and songs while waiting to return their rifles to the armoury.

A weekend full of learning, laughter and teamwork and a great example of the resilience, discipline and camaraderie that define our CCF Army Cadet programme.
