Led by our Pastoral and Wellbeing Advisor, the sessions encouraged pupils to reflect on what it means to belong, both in school and online, and how small acts of kindness can shape a culture where everyone feels valued.

The assembly opened by exploring the concept of belonging: the feeling that you can be yourself without judgement; that you are recognised for who you are; and that you have a place within the community. Belonging, pupils learned, is not the same as fitting in. Whereas fitting in demands change to match the group, belonging is created when the group adapts to include, accept and support others.

A key focus of this year’s assembly was the role of social media and group chats in young people’s social lives. Pupils considered how online spaces can act as “performance stages”, where likes, reactions and silence can feel amplified. They were encouraged to think critically about how online behaviour affects others, and how quickly screenshots and messages can travel.
The assembly concluded with a powerful reminder: belonging at CLS should never depend on humour, athleticism, volume or academic performance. Every pupil matters simply by being part of the community.

As our Pastoral and Wellbeing Advisor shared:

“Small actions change culture, and culture is built by the people in this room.”

This week has been an opportunity for pupils to reflect on who they are, how they connect with others, and how kindness can be the catalyst for a more inclusive, compassionate school environment.
