The trip began with a walk to the iconic Plaza de España, a spectacular blend of Moorish, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture that set the tone for the remarkable historical sites to come.
Their first major stop on the trip was El Alcázar, a medieval Moorish palace rich with intricate stonework and religious iconography. The historic atmosphere continued with daily Spanish lessons at the CLIC language school, where pupils were able to practice their skills entirely in Spanish through a range of lively and challenging discussions and activities.
The following day took the pupils on a guided tour of Triana, a district with its own unique identity just across the Guadalquivir River. The group explored the Mercado de Triana, which is built above the ruins of the Castillo de San Jorge, once the headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition. Later, a tour of Estadio Benito Villamarín—home of Real Betis—offered a dramatic change of pace, providing even non-football fans with a new appreciation for the grandeur of the stadium and its rich sporting history.
Staff and pupils travelled to nearby Córdoba, where they explored the Judería (Jewish Quarter) and visited the city’s famed Mezquita-Catedral. The unique building, originally an 8th-century mosque later transformed into a cathedral after the Reconquista, captivated the group with its impressive scale and architectural fusion.
On the final day, pupils bid farewell to their homestay families and CLIC teachers, receiving language certifications as a testament to their progress. Before departing, they visited the Catedral de Sevilla—the world’s fourth-largest church and home to part of Christopher Columbus’s remains. Climbing the adjoining Giralda tower capped off the journey with stunning panoramic views of the city.
Exhausted but inspired, the group left Seville with a deeper understanding of its history, language, and culture—and memories to last a lifetime.
