Last Wednesday, the History Department organised walking tours across the City to look at the Square Mile’s links with the Slave Trade. The themes aligned well with the Third Form curriculum and encouraged the pupils to enhance their understanding of London’s relationship with a difficult but significant past. Pupils (and staff) have said they are keen to revisit various stops along the way, including the Gilt of Cain sculpture, located near Fenchurch Street.
On Thursday, Mrs Martineau and Dr Bezalel’s Senior Sixth Form R&P pupils were treated to an exclusive tour of St Paul’s Cathedral, led by our very own Academic Administrator, Claudia Bacchelli. This week, First Form pupils embarked on a series of Medieval history-themed walks, which included stops at Charterhouse Square and Guildhall. Both these trips show just how much primary information is available directly on our doorstep, and highlights the School’s incredible location and proximity to history. We are truly lucky.
Just yesterday, Mr Powrie and Lt Cdr Gregory introduced the new CCF Navy recruits to the basics of powerboating down at Welsh Harp, all whilst Junior Sixth Form Physics pupils were shown the methods at testing physical properties at the Kirkaldy Museum.
The weeks since have half term have exemplified the varying extent of our co-curricular programme here at City of London School. With such positive feedback from pupils and staff alike, we will continue to look for ways to adapt the offering and ultimately enhance every single pupil’s experience.
