This week's Good News Roundup
This week at School has seen several good news highlights in many different areas, especially from our Second Form. They were announced in this morning’s assembly and given certificates for their accolades.
Firstly, the achievements of Adam who competed in the Mini Marathon, a 5 KM run on the same day as the London marathon. He completed this in the outstanding time of 18 minutes and 44 seconds which is a feat in itself.
Tobias and Amr were part of the school’s International History Bowl team. The team went through the first round and last weekend competed in the national final against the likes of Eton and St Paul’s. Following on from this week’s story, we are delighted to report that they won this competition and have now been moved forward to the European round of the competition which will take place in a couple of weeks in Italy.
On Wednesday, several Second Formers competed in an Engineering challenge day competition - The Faraday Challenge. They split into two teams of six and had to solve some engineering challenges to do with innovative solutions for making racing yachts faster/more effective/efficient (which was a theme chosen because of the upcoming Americas Cup which Britain is trying to win for the first time). This was all done by using a BBC micro-bit along with a crash course in programming and various components that they could buy from a 'shop' on a limited budget. The event had six teams from different schools and was one of some 140 events across the country. They were split into two teams. One team came second in the heat and were beaten only by the other City team. This group are now waiting to hear if they have qualified for the national finals.
Finally, the Second Form Waterpolo team competed in the national finals against 5 other schools, including Trinity and Manchester Grammar. It was a tough assignment against some outstanding teams and the boys eventually finished in 5th place overall. Well done to all boys involved in this week’s achievements.
