CLS Brothers are Table Tennis Champions
Congratulations to brothers Benjamin and Joseph for their stunning achievements in Table Tennis.
The 1st and 3rd formers, respectively, represented CLS and London East in the 44th National Individual Table Tennis Championships at the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton, on 29 April. Joseph and Benjamin competed in the Under 16 and Under 13 Boys categories. As they were both playing in the tournament for the first time, they were unseeded, and had to battle their way through a high level field of 48 players through the day.
The tournament was hard fought but we’re delighted to report that the boys won the National Under 16 and National Under 13 championships, respectively.
The U13 boys category proved to be the most unpredictable of the day, as three players from outside the top eight seeds reached the semi-finals and the fourth semi-finalist was a reserve player only called up on the eve of the event. 12 year old Hee beat him to win the event 3-0 (11-2, 11-8, 11-5). He has commented “I’m excited and very happy, it’s the biggest event I’ve won since I’ve been here. It was very hard and there were some really good opponents.”
Joseph matched the feat of his younger brother Benjamin thanks to a four-set victory in the final. It was 6-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-3 in favour of the CLS pupil. Joseph has said “I feel really happy and proud to win because I was playing for East London and my school. It was a really tough competition and I’m happy to have pulled through to win.”
