The Concert was a wonderful exhibition of the extraordinary variety of music that goes on at CLS. The audience were treated to an array of music ranging from Mozart to Metallica; from the Year 7 ‘Orchestra For All’; to the Senior Sixth Form Flute Ensemble; from the might of the full Chamber Choir, right through to the intimacy of a piano solo.
Conducted by the ever-energetic Mr Crockatt, supported by the rest of the Music Department, the concert both showcased pupils’ work in the classroom, including four original compositions for orchestra by Year 9 pupils, and featured some of CLS’s staple ensembles, such as Swing Band, who kicked off the concert with a lively set of four songs.
A rendition of the theme tune to ‘Super Mario’, performed by the Clarinet Ensemble, produced more than a few chuckles from the audience.
Junior String Orchestra and Second Orchestra also featured, playing Elgar and music from films. The concert was also punctuated by several performances from younger pupils who have just started learning their instruments, and who played with great vigour throughout.
A selection of music composed by Mr Quesnel, Director of Music, and sung by the Chamber Choir finished the evening, and another successful year for the Music Department.
