The theme of this year’s Black History Month is “Reclaiming Narratives” and three pupils from our African-Caribbean Society explained the importance of this theme in a thought-provoking assembly.
They spoke in turn about the celebration of black influence in jazz music, the Battle of Adwa and how Civil Rights Activist, Maya Angelou influenced a university application.
This month will see various events including a Black and British Poster Campaign around school, a trip to the Black Cultural Archives, Afro-Caribbean Cultural Fete, a pupil Speaker Series. Our Art Department are running a competition asking pupils to create portraits of influential Black figures from history using the theme ICONS.
