Teams 34701A, 34701B, and 34701C, better known as Vincibus, I’m Going to Be King of the Pirates, and Bob Jr, proudly represented CLS at the event hosted by Greig City Academy. A huge thank you to our wonderful hosts for organising such a brilliant and welcoming competition!
The day began with robot inspections, ensuring every team’s build conformed to the official game rules and all CLS robots passed with flying colours. Throughout the day, CLS pupils worked together to tackle design issues, improve build quality, and refinie their driving skills with focus and creativity.
By the end of the qualifying rounds, the three CLS teams had performed strongly and were well placed for the alliance finals. Team 34701A (Vincibus) faced some significant design challenges early on but demonstrated fantastic resilience and teamwork. Despite finishing in 7th place (alongside alliance partners 71221C – STEM Squad 3, scoring 7 points), they stayed positive and even overcame a major technical issue thanks to collaboration with another team. They have returned to the workshop in School to redesign key parts of their robot and build on what they learned.
Team 34701B (I’m Going to Be King of the Pirates) had a brilliant day, working seamlessly with alliance partners 1064A – Tech Titans to secure 2nd place with an impressive 80 points in the finals. Their robot performed consistently throughout the day, and they ranked third in the country for skills, with a Driver Highscore of 52 – a fantastic result so early in the season!
Team 34701C (Bob Jr), made up of Second Form pupils competing in their first ever season, had an outstanding debut. Paired with alliance partners 71221B – STEM Squad 2, they achieved an incredible 3rd place finish in the finals with 70 points. The team showed excellent problem-solving skills and steady driving under pressure, which is a huge achievement for their first competition. In the Skills Challenge, they also performed strongly, with a Highscore of 45.
It was a fantastic start to the season for all three CLS teams. We are looking forward to seeing how their robots evolve as the season continues!
