More than 100 musicians from CLS and CLSG took part in the annual competition, which began with a series of heats before half term in six categories: singing, strings, wind & brass, piano & organ, guitar & harp, and percussion.
Fifth Form pupil, Nikita, won the Advanced category for singing for CLS, while CLSG Sixth Former Sophie, won the Advanced category on flute. In the Intermediate category, for up to grade 5 standard, drummer Boaz from Fourth Form won for CLS, and singer Elora for CLSG.
The final, which was attended by parents and family members of the 24 finalists, was adjudicated by Rosie Whitfield, the Head of Junior Guildhall. It was a very special evening. Nikita’s soaring voice and touching performance of ‘Caro Sposa’ from Handel’s opera Rinaldo, moved audiences immensely, while Sophie’s technically impressive performance of Busser’s fiendish Prelude and Scherzo for flute wowed audience and adjudicator alike. Boaz’s performance on the drums was full of rhythmic integrity and character, and Elora’s confident performance of ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ showed off her powerful voice.
