Upon arrival, pupils were warmly welcomed by Eataly’s expert instructor before settling in to learn the techniques behind two classic dishes: tagliatelle with sage and butter, and spinach and ricotta ravioli served with a fresh tomato sauce. For many, it was the first time attempting pasta from scratch, but under enthusiastic and knowledgeable guidance, pupils quickly grew in confidence.

Over the course of the workshop, the group kneaded dough, prepared fillings, and simmered sauces, all while enjoying a friendly competition to see who could create the most impressive pasta. With Bishopsgate as their backdrop, pupils embraced the challenge with characteristic CLS spirit and humour.

The tasting session that followed proved a highlight. While the ravioli’s gentle spice and well-balanced flavours won over some, the majority favoured the rich, cheesy comfort of the tagliatelle.

Pupils rated the experience highly, describing it as “9 out of 10” and even “the best day trip ever”. The workshop offered a welcome moment of creativity and calm away from mock examinations, giving pupils the chance to learn a new skill, enjoy time with friends, and explore a different side of London’s cultural scene.

One pupil commented:

“It was a welcome break from school life and mock exams – an experience I would highly recommend to anyone interested in cooking, culture, and, of course, delicious food.”

We are delighted to provide opportunities like this, which encourage curiosity and knowledge that extends beyond the classroom.
